The year’s first Sedge Warbler (Haddiscoe Island, 31 March), Swallow (two at Beccles and two at Worlingham, 1 April) and Willow Warbler (three at Carlton Marshes, two at Oulton Marshes and one at Beccles Common, 1 April) were all recorded during the week. A flock of 30 Waxwings was present along Garden Lane, Worlingham, 1 April and Carlton Marshes hosted a White Wagtail, 26 March and four Water Pipits, 1 April. Grey Wagtails were noted at Worlingham Marshes, 26 March and Barsham Marshes, 27 March; Bramblings at Waveney Forest, Fritton (six) and Carlton Marshes, 28 March and St Olaves, 29 March; Stonechats at Oulton Marshes, 26 March and Carlton Marshes (three), 28 March; Bearded Tits at Haddiscoe Island, 31 March and Lopham Fen, 1 April; Cetti’s Warblers at Lopham Fen (two) and Oulton Marshes, 26 March, Herringfleet Marshes (three), 30 March and Carlton Marshes (16), 1 April. A Kingfisher was recorded at Earsham, 29 March and a flock of 100 Linnets at Barnby Marshes on 1 April was noteworthy.

The male Garganey at Carlton Marshes from last week stayed until 30 March and a male Mandarin was seen at the same site on 1 April. The flock of Barnacle Geese at the former Otter Trust centre at Earsham had increased to 300 on 29 March.

A Peregrine was seen at Carlton Marshes, 26 March and a male Hen Harrier at Worlingham Marshes and Oulton Marshes, 1 April. Red Kites were noted at St Olaves, 29 March and Carlton Marshes (two) and Diss, 1 April, Marsh Harriers at Lopham Fen (three), 26 March, Carlton Marshes (four), 28 March and Herringfleet Marshes, 30 March, while five Buzzards were recorded at Carlton Marshes, 28 March. A Short-eared Owl was hunting at Carlton Marshes, 28 March, while Barn Owls were reported from Oulton Marshes (two) and Lopham Fen, 26 March and Carlton Marshes (three), 30 March.

Waders at Carlton Marshes included a Little Ringed Plover, two Black-tailed Godwits and a Dunlin, 27 March, a Ruff, a Green Sandpiper and five Redshanks, 30 March and an Avocet, 1 April. Finally, Little Egrets were noted at Lopham Fen, 27 March and Carlton Marshes (two) and Herringfleet Marshes (two), 30 March.
