The wintering Lesser Yellowlegs at Breydon Water put in appearances at Burgh Castle Flats on 29 and 31 December and 1 January. Other waders at Burgh Castle Flats included 216 Common Redshanks 30 December, two Spotted Redshanks, 31 December, a Knot, 26 Black-tailed Godwits and 11 Curlews, 1 January and 30 Avocets and 518 Dunlin, 2 January, while a Green Sandpiper was seen at Lopham Fen, 28 December.

A Rough-legged Buzzard was present at Haddiscoe Island, 1 and 2 January. Other raptors included a Peregrine at Castle Marsh, North Cove, 2 January, Marsh Harriers at Castle Marsh (three), 28 December, Herringfleet Marshes, 31 December, Burgh Castle (three), 1 January and St Olaves (two) and Carlton Marshes, 2 January, a Short-eared Owl at Haddiscoe Island, 29 December and Barn Owls at Barsham Marshes (two), 27 December and Lopham Fen, 28 December.

Notable passerines included a Chiffchaff at Barsham Marshes, 27 December, Lesser Redpolls at Ditchingham, 30 December and Thorpe-next-Haddiscoe, 1 January and a Brambling at Thorpe-next-Haddiscoe, 1 January. Cetti’s Warbler were noted at Barsham Marshes (two), 27 December and Herringfleet Marshes, 31 December, Stonechats at Carlton Marshes (two) and Castle Marsh (three), 28 December and Bearded Tits at Burgh Castle, 30 December, Herringfleet Marshes (four), 31 December, Thorpe-next-Haddiscoe, 1 January and Castle Marsh (seven), 2 January.

Finally, 200 Pink-footed Geese flew north over St Olaves, 28 December, a Mediterranean Gull was seen at Burgh Castle, 1 January and Little Egrets were recorded at Lopham Fen, 28 December, Herringfleet Marshes, 31 December and Burgh Castle (five), 1 January.

Waders at Burgh Castle on 20 December included a Spotted Redshank, eight Avocets, 220 Black-tailed Godwits, 30 Curlews and 60 Common Redshanks, while other records at the same site on the same day involved three Little Egrets, 180 Teal, five Bearded Tits, a Peregrine and a Marsh Harrier.

Elsewhere, another Peregrine was seen at Flixton GP and four Marsh Harriers were noted at Haddiscoe Island, 20 December. Barn Owls were reported from Beccles Marshes, 20 December and Somerleyton (two), 25 December.

Two Bearded Tits were seen at Carlton Marshes, 14 December, two Chiffchaffs at Beccles, 16 December, a Grey Wagtail at Flixton GP, 17 December and another Grey Wagtail together with a Kingfisher at Worlingham Marshes, 19 December.

A Marsh Harrier was noted at Carlton Marshes, 13 December and three Buzzards at Worlingham Marshes, 19 December, while Barn Owls were reported from Carlton Marshes and Somerleyton, 13 December, Ditchingham, 14 December and Beccles Marshes, 15 December.

Wildfowl included 600 Pink-footed Geese at Oulton Marshes, 13 December, 185 Mute Swans and 388 Greylag Geese at Flixton GP, 17 December and 140 Mute Swans at Castle Marsh, North Cove, 19 December. Little Egrets were present at Carlton Marshes (two), 13 December, Beccles Common, 14 December, Redgrave Fen, 17 December and Castle Marsh (three), 19 December.

Finally, waders included a count of 45 Snipe at Carlton Marshes and two Redshanks at Castle Marsh, 13 December and five Woodcock at Worlingham Marshes, 19 December.

Five Short-eared Owls were seen at Haddiscoe Island, 9 December, with reports of Barn Owls received from Haddiscoe Island, 6 December, Burgh Castle, 7 December, Beccles Marshes (two) and Castle Marsh, 11 December and Bungay, 12 December. A male Hen Harrier was also recorded at Haddiscoe Island, 9 December, with Marsh Harriers noted at Haddiscoe Island (seven), 6 December, Herringfleet Marshes, 8 December and Oulton Marshes, 9 December.

Four Bewick’s Swans flew over Castle Marsh, North Cove, 6 December, while two flew over Burnt Hill Lane, Carlton Colville, 12 December and 1200 Pink-footed Geese were present at Somerleyton Marshes, 12 December.

A Bittern was seen in flight at Castle Marsh, 6 December and three Little Egrets were noted at the same site on 12 December. A Green Sandpiper and three Woodcock were recorded at Fritton, 6 December and a count of 243 Great Black-backed Gulls was made at Burnt Hill Lane, Carlton Colville on the same day.

Two Bearded Tits and two Cetti’s Warblers were noted at Herringfleet Marshes, 8 December and a Kingfisher was seen at Beccles Marshes, 11 December.

Lesser Redpolls were present at Blundeston (three), Dunburgh Hill and Somerleyton, 2 December and Bearded Tits at Herringfleet Marshes (four), 4 December and Haddiscoe Island (four), 5 December. A Kingfisher was noted at Worlingham Marshes, 29 November and a Cetti’s Warbler at Oulton Marshes and two Stonechats at Haddiscoe Island, 5 December.

Pink-footed Geese were recorded at Herringfleet Marshes (120), 4 December and Haddiscoe Island (1000) and St Olaves (18), 5 December, Little Egrets at Worlingham Marshes, 29 November and Haddiscoe Island (six), 5 December and a Woodcock at Blundeston, 2 December.

Marsh Harriers were seen at Herringfleet Marshes (three), 4 December and Haddiscoe Island (five), 5 December and Barn Owls at Beccles Marshes, 4 December and Homersfield, 5 December.

A Firecrest was present in a garden at Barnby, 22 and 24 November and a Lesser Redpoll in a garden at Ditchingham, 23 November. Two Bearded Tits were noted at Burgh Castle, 22 November, a Grey Wagtail at Beccles Quay, 25 November and Kingfishers at Beccles Marshes, 26 November and Carlton Marshes, 28 November.

A flock of 46 Pink-footed Geese flew south over St Olaves, 26 November, while 150 Greylag Geese and 250 Mute Swans were present at Castle Marsh, North Cove, 27 November.

Marsh Harriers were seen at Burgh Castle, 22 November and Somerleyton Marshes, 24 November and five Buzzards were noted at North Cove, 26 November.

A Curlew and ten Redshanks were seen at Burgh Castle, 22 November, while Woodcock were recorded at St Olaves (three), 22 November and Waveney Forest, Fritton the following day.

A Woodcock was seen at Waveney Forest, Fritton, 21 November, while a Redshank and 21 Snipe were noted at Carlton Marshes, 15 November.

The first Goosanders of the autumn were present at Fritton Lake (five), 21 November. Pink-footed Geese flew over Fritton (100), 15 November and Somerleyton (300), 20 November. Little Egrets were recorded at Carlton Marshes (two), 15 November, Redgrave Fen, 17 November and Oulton Marshes, 20 November.

A count of 12 Marsh Harriers was made at Haddiscoe Island, 15 November, a Short-eared Owl was seen at Oulton Marshes, 16 November and Barn Owls were reported from Carlton Marshes, 15 November, Beccles Marshes, 17 November, Thorpe-next-Haddiscoe (two), 19 November and Oulton Marshes (two), 20 November.

A Lesser Redpoll and a Cetti’s Warblers were noted at Oulton Marshes, 20 November, with a further Cetti’s Warbler recorded at Beccles Marshes, 17 November.

A Penduline Tit flew south-east over St Olaves bridge at 9.15am on 8 November, providing the highlight of the week. A Chiffchaff, four Cetti’s Warblers, two Stonechats and 12 Bearded Tits were recorded at nearby Somerleyton on the same day, with a further Cetti’s Warbler noted at Carlton Marshes, 12 November. Grey Wagtails were seen at Ellingham Mill, 8 November and Beccles Quay, 9 November, Kingfishers at Carlton Marshes, 8 November and Beccles Quay (two), 9 November and two Lesser Redpolls at Outney Common, Bungay, 13 November. Pre-roost gatherings of Starlings included 1200 at Haddiscoe Island, 8 November and 12000 at Lopham Fen and 2000 at Barsham Marshes, 13 November.

A Red Kite was seen at Ditchingham, 8 November, while Marsh Harriers were noted at Belton Marshes, Burgh Castle and Somerleyton Marshes, 8 November and Haddiscoe Island (14), 14 November. Short-eared Owls were present at Lopham Fen, 8 November and Haddiscoe Island (two), 14 November, with Barn Owls recorded at Belton Marshes and Oulton Marshes, 8 November, Beccles Marshes (two), 11 November, Outney Common, 13 November and Haddiscoe Island (four), 14 November.

A flock of 670 Pink-footed Geese flew south-east over Somerleyton, 13 November. Finally, Little Egrets were reported from Somerleyton Marshes (two), 8 November, Carlton Marshes (three), 12 November and Outney Common, 13 November.

A Rock Pipit was noted at Burgh Castle Flats, 1 November; a Stonechat and a Cetti’s Warbler at Thorpe-next-Haddiscoe and four Lesser Redpolls and two Grey Wagtails at Beccles, 2 November; a Kingfisher at Beccles Quay, 3 November and a Bearded Tit at Fritton Marshes, 7 November.

A male Hen Harrier was seen at Haddiscoe Island, 7 November, while Marsh Harriers were reported from Beccles Marshes, Carlton Marshes and Oulton Marshes, 3 November and Haddiscoe Island (13), 7 November and Barn Owls from Carlton Marshes (two), 3 November and Flixton (near Bungay), 7 November.

Little Egrets were recorded at Carlton Marshes (three), 3 November, Beccles Marshes, 6 November and Haddiscoe Island, 7 November. A Mediterranean Gull was present at Burgh Castle Flats, 1 November.

The Great Grey Shrike was again present at Barnby Marshes, 25 October. Lesser Redpolls were recorded at Carlton Marshes (15), 25 October and Beccles Marshes, 28 October; Grey Wagtails at Beccles Quay and Earsham, 28 October; Cetti’s Warblers at Carlton Marshes (two), 29 October and Herringfleet Marshes (three), 30 October and Stonechats at Herringfleet Marshes, 30 October and Carlton Marshes, 31 October. Two Kingfishers were noted at Beccles Quay, 28 October and four Bearded Tits at Herringfleet Marshes, 30 October. Sizeable flocks of Fieldfares included 230 at Carlton Marshes, 26 October and 100 at Beccles Marshes, 30 October.

Two Spoonbills remained at Carlton Marshes until 26 October, while Little Egrets were present at Haddiscoe Island, 25 October and Carlton Marshes (four), 26 October.

Short-eared Owls were hunting at Haddiscoe Island (two), 25 October and Carlton Marshes, 26 October, with Barn Owls reported from Carlton Marshes (four) and Beccles Marshes, 26 October and Marsh Harriers from Haddiscoe Island, 25 October, Carlton Marshes, 26 October and Herringfleet Marshes (three), 30 October.

Pink-footed Geese were noted at St Olaves (1500), 28 October and Herringfleet Marshes (1500), 30 October. Finally, a Green Sandpiper was seen at Earsham, 28 October.
