1 to 7 March 2015

A Red Kite flew over Sprat’s Water, Carlton Colville on the morning of 6 March. Raptors at Haddiscoe Island on the following day included a Rough-legged Buzzard, three ringtail Hen Harriers, two Peregrines and five Buzzards, while five Buzzards were also seen at Wicker Well, Somerleyton, 5 March.

Notable passerines included six Tree Sparrows at Thorpe-next-Haddiscoe and four Bearded Tits at Herringfleet Marshes, 1 March, a Chiffchaff at Fisher Row, Oulton, 5 March and a Grey Wagtail at Beccles Quay, 7 March. Singing Cetti’s Warblers were noted at Herringfleet Marshes (four), 1 March, Fisher Row (two) and Somerleyton, 5 March and Carlton Marshes, 6 March and Stonechats at Beccles Marshes, 3 March and Oulton Marshes (two), 5 March.

Wader highlights included 90 Avocets and 140 Curlews at Burgh Castle Flats, 7 March, while a Curlew was also seen at Beccles Marshes, 3 March. Finally, Little Egrets were noted at Haddiscoe Island (two), Beccles Marshes and Belton Marshes, 7 March.
