WBC Sightings

11 to 17 November 2018

Raptors at Haddiscoe Island included a Rough-legged Buzzard, 11 November, a Merlin, 15 November and ten Marsh Harriers, three Short-eared Owls and a Barn Owl, 17 November. Elsewhere, a Marsh Harrier was reported from Castle Marsh, North Cove, 12 November and Barn Owls from Lopham Fen, 11 November and Carlton Marshes, 12 November.

The long-staying adult Cattle Egret at Carlton Marshes was seen regularly through the week, with sightings of presumably the same bird at nearby North Cove on 11 and 12 November, while single Little Egrets were noted at Carlton Marshes, 11 November and Herringfleet Marshes, 15 November.

A Slavonian Grebe was seen on Breydon Water off Burgh Castle on 14 November, while counts of Pink-footed Geese included 200 at Haddiscoe Island, 11 November and 200 at Herringfleet Marshes, 15 November.

A Water Pipit was seen at Carlton Marshes and two Bearded Tits at Haddiscoe Island, 11 November. Grey Wagtails were recorded at Beccles Common and Worlingham, 11 November, Chiffchaffs at Barnby Marshes and Carlton Marshes, 16 November and Kingfishers at Herringfleet Marshes, 15 November and Carlton Marshes, 17 November. Counts of 100 Linnets at Haddiscoe Island and 100 Pied Wagtails at Lopham Fen were made on 11 November.

Waders at Carlton Marshes included 41 Snipe, 11 November, two Redshanks, 16 November and five Dunlin, 17 November, while 400 Golden Plovers and three Curlews were noted at Haddiscoe Island, 11 November and a single Redshank at Castle Marsh, 12 November.
