WBC Sightings

11 to 17 October 2015

Two Merlins were seen at Waveney Forest, Fritton at dusk on 11 October. Marsh Harriers were recorded at Haddiscoe Island (eight), 11 October and Burgh Castle, 15 October and Barn Owls at Carlton Marshes (three) and Haddiscoe Island (three), 11 October.

The first Redwings of the autumn were noted at Beccles and Oulton, 12 October, while late summer migrants included Chiffchaffs at Beccles and Waveney Forest, 11 October and Swallows at Oulton Marshes, 16 October and St Olaves, 17 October. A Stonechat was present at Carlton Marshes, 11 October, Grey Wagtails were recorded at Ellingham Mill, 11 October, Worlingham Marshes, 12 October and Somerleyton (two), 15 October and two Bearded Tits were noted at Burgh Castle, 15 October. Kingfishers were reported from Worlingham Marshes (two) and Beccles Quay, 12 October.

Numbers of Pink-footed Geese rose during the week, with counts of 1500 over Waveney Forest, 11 October and 2000 over Somerleyton Marshes, 1000 over Oulton and 1000 over St Olaves, 17 October. Finally, Little Egrets were noted at Gillingham Marshes, 13 October, Burgh Castle (seven), 15 October and Carlton Marshes, 17 October.
