WBC Sightings

13 to 19 September 2015

A juvenile Red-footed Falcon flew over Churchfarm Marshes, Burgh Castle at dusk on 19 September. Hobbies were seen at St Olaves, 13 September, Beccles, 15 September, Burgh Castle and Waveney Forest, Fritton, 18 September and Worlingham, 19 September and a Peregrine was noted at Carlton Marshes, 14 September. Marsh Harriers were recorded at St Olaves, 13 September, Carlton Marshes (five), 14 September, Belton Marshes, 18 September and Burgh Castle (two) and Haddiscoe Island (two), 19 September and Barn Owls at Belton Marshes (two) and Carlton Marshes (two), 18 September.

A Great White Egret flew east along the river at North Cove, 18 September and was seen at Carlton Marshes the following day, while Little Egrets were present at Carlton Marshes (eight), 13 September, Redgrave Fen, 14 September and Belton Marshes (six), 18 September.

Eight Whinchats were seen at Carlton Marshes, 15 September, with a Wheatear and two Cetti’s Warblers noted at the same site, 19 September. A further Cetti’s Warbler and a Grey Wagtail were recorded at Burgh Castle, 19 September, while Kingfishers were reported from Carlton Marshes, 13 September and Burgh Castle, 19 September.

Waders at Carlton Marshes included a Spotted Redshank and nine Black-tailed Godwits, 13 September, a Green Sandpiper, 12 Dunlin and a Redshank, 14 September and seven Ruff, 15 September. 30 Avocets, six Black-tailed Godwits and 15 Redshanks were recorded at Burgh Castle Flats, 19 September.

Finally, a flock of 315 Canada Geese was present at Redgrave Fen, 14 September and 60 Egyptian Geese and an injured Pink-footed Goose were noted at Burgh Castle, 19 September.
