WBC Sightings

14 to 20 February 2016

The Cattle Egret was present at East End Farm, Aldeby until 19 February. Little Egrets were recorded at Carlton Marshes (two), Aldeby and Lopham Fen, 14 February and Oulton Marshes, 17 February.

The wintering Lesser Yellowlegs returned to Burgh Castle, 19 and 20 February, while waders at Carlton Marshes included two Woodcock, 14 February and a Jack Snipe and two Redshanks, 19 February.

A Rough-legged Buzzard and a Merlin were seen at Haddiscoe Island, 14 February. Elsewhere, a Peregrine was noted at Oulton Marshes, 17 February, three Buzzards at Fritton Lake, 18 February and Marsh Harriers at Carlton Marshes, 15 February and Lopham Fen, 20 February. A Short-eared Owl was present at Carlton Marshes, 18 February, with Barn Owls reported from Beccles Marshes (two), 14 February and Carlton Marshes (five) and Ashby, 15 February.

Notable passerines included two Stonechats at Aldeby, 14 February, a Grey Wagtail at Beccles Quay, 16 February, a Chiffchaff at Carlton Colville, 17 February and 30 Siskins at Oulton Marshes and two Bearded Tits at Lopham Fen, 20 February.
