A Waxwing was present along Mill Road, Burgh Castle, 14 January, while more unseasonable records involved a Blackcap in a garden at Beccles, 16 January and a Chiffchaff at Carlton Marshes, 20 January. A Grey Wagtail was seen at Beccles, 14 January and a Brambling at St Olaves and three Lesser Redpolls and 35 Siskins at Flixton (near Lowestoft), 20 January. Water Pipits were noted at Thorpe-next-Haddiscoe, 14 January and Carlton Marshes (two), 17 January; Stonechats at Lopham Fen (two), Thorpe-next-Haddiscoe, 14 January and Carlton Marshes, 17 January; Bearded Tits at Lopham Fen, 14 January and Herringfleet Marshes (two), 16 January and Kingfishers at Fritton Lake, 15 January and Carlton Marshes, 20 January.
A Rough-legged Buzzard was seen at Haddiscoe Island and roosted at Waveney Forest, Fritton, 19 and 20 January. Other raptors included a Red Kite at Haddiscoe, 19 January and a ringtail Hen Harrier and a Peregrine at Haddiscoe Island, 20 January, while Marsh Harriers were noted at Lopham Fen and Oulton Marshes, 14 January, Herringfleet (two), 16 January and Haddiscoe Island (seven) and Carlton Marshes (three), 20 January. Four Short-eared Owls were hunting at Haddiscoe Island, 18 January, while Barn Owls were reported from Beccles Common and Lopham Fen, 14 January and Haddiscoe Island (five), 20 January.
The long-staying Great White Egret was present at Redgrave Fen, 14 January, with Little Egrets noted at Burgh Castle (two) and Oulton Marshes, 14 January. A count of 1100 Cormorants was made at the roost at Fritton Lake, 15 January.
A Goosander was present at Fritton Lake, 15 January. A count of 260 Teal was made at Burgh Castle, 14 January and a count of 235 Wigeon at Carlton and Oulton Marshes, 18 January. A Brent Goose was again seen at Carlton Marshes, 14 January, while Pink-footed Geese were recorded at Herringfleet Marshes (eight flew west), 16 January, Carlton/Oulton Marshes (1500 flew over), 18 January and St Olaves (200 flew south-east), 20 January.
Waders at Burgh Castle on 14 January included an Avocet, 12 Black-tailed Godwits, 50 Curlews and 15 Redshanks and combined wader counts from Carlton and Oulton Marshes on 18 January included 49 Snipe, 32 Dunlin and five Redshanks.
