WBC Sightings

16 to 22 October 2016

Two late Wheatears were seen at Carlton Marshes, 17 October, with a Swallow and four Cetti’s Warblers noted at the same site, 22 October and seven Crossbills were observed in flight at St Olaves, 18 October, with 70 Siskins present in the same village, 20 October. Bearded Tits were recorded at Redgrave Fen (two), 16 October and Carlton Marshes (11), 22 October, Stonechats at Fritton Marshes, 16 October and Carlton Marshes (three), 21 October, Grey Wagtails at Worlingham Marshes (four) and St Olaves, 17 October and Kingfishers at Worlingham Marshes, 21 October and Carlton Marshes (two), 22 October. The pre-roost gathering of Starlings at Haddiscoe Island had increased to 10,000, 19 October.

The first Woodcock of the autumn were seen at Waveney Forest, Fritton (two), 16 October, while nearby on Haddiscoe Island two Curlews were recorded, 16 October and 100 Golden Plovers and 500 Lapwings, 20 October. A Green Sandpiper, a Dunlin and 12 Snipe were present at Carlton Marshes, 22 October.

A flock of 150 Pink-footed Geese flew over Carlton Marshes, 22 October and Little Egrets were present at Haddiscoe Island, 20 October and Carlton Marshes (two), 22 October.

Marsh Harriers were reported from Haddiscoe Island (three), 16 October and Carlton Marshes (two), 17 October and Barn Owls from Haddiscoe Island, 20 October and Carlton Marshes (two), 22 October.
