WBC Sightings

16 to 22 August 2015

Waders at Carlton Marshes included a Little Stint, a Wood Sandpiper, a Ringed Plover, three Little Ringed Plovers, two Greenshanks, a Green Sandpiper and 12 Snipe, 16 August, three Black-tailed Godwits, nine Dunlin and three Redshanks, 17 August, a Curlew, 19 August and six Ruff, 22 August. Elsewhere, a Green Sandpiper and two Curlews were present at Belton Marshes, 16 August, a Green Sandpiper at Earsham GP, 17 August and a Ruff at Redgrave Fen, 19 August.

The juvenile Purple Heron, released at Carlton Marshes last week, was not seen after 17 August. Little Egrets were noted at Belton Marshes (nine), 16 August, Carlton Marshes (five), 17 August, Redgrave Fen, 19 August and Oulton Marshes (five), 22 August.

Carlton Marshes hosted a Whinchat and a Yellow Wagtail, 16 August, two Wheatears, 19 August and a late Cuckoo, 21 August. Bearded Tits were recorded at Belton Marshes (six), 16 August and Lopham Fen (four), 19 August.

An unseasonable Short-eared Owl was seen at Carlton Marshes, 17 August, while Barn Owls were reported from Belton Marshes and Carlton Marshes, 16 August and Redgrave Fen, 19 August.
