WBC Sightings

18 to 24 September 2016

A Red-throated Diver was a surprise sighting at Burgh Castle, 20 September and a Mandarin Duck was present at Flixton GP, 21 September.

A Wheatear was seen at Flixton GP, 21 September. Late-staying summer visitors included a Reed Warbler at Redgrave Fen, 19 September, a Sedge Warbler at Carlton Marshes, 20 September and a Swift at Fritton Marshes, 21 September. Bearded Tits were noted at Carlton Marshes (two), 22 September and Lopham Fen (15), 23 September, Cetti’s Warblers at North Cove SWT reserve and Worlingham Marshes, 20 September and Carlton Marshes, 22 September and Kingfishers at Oulton Marshes (two) and Earsham GP, 18 September, Worlingham Marshes, 20 September, Lopham Fen, 23 September and Carlton Marshes (two), 24 September.

A Bittern was recorded at Carlton Marshes, 20 September, with Little Egrets reported from Earsham, 18 September, Belton Marshes (two), 21 September and Carlton Marshes (two), 22 September.

Waders at Burgh Castle included three Bar-tailed Godwits, 18 September and three Avocets, two Greenshanks, four Black-tailed Godwits, 28 Curlews and four Dunlin, 20 September, while Carlton Marshes hosted a Green Sandpiper and a Redshank, 20 September and a Ruff, 22 September. Two Common Sandpipers were present at Flixton GP, 21 September.

Hobbies were seen at North Cove SWT reserve, 19 September, Worlingham Marshes, 20 September and Belton Marshes (four) and Carlton Marshes, 21 September, with Peregrines at Lopham Fen, 18 September and Bungay, 19 September and Marsh Harriers at St Olaves, 18 September, Worlingham Marshes (two), 20 September and Haddiscoe Island (six), 21 September. Barn Owls were reported from Burgh Castle and Carlton Marshes, 18 September, Worlingham Marshes, 20 September and Belton Marshes, 21 September.
