A pair of Garganey was present at Carlton Marshes, 21 March, with the male staying to the end of the week. Also at Carlton Marshes, the Red-throated Diver from last week was seen on 19 March, but was sadly found dead the following day.
A Crane was reported at Haddiscoe Island, 23 March, while Little Egrets were noted at Outney Common, Bungay, 19 March, St James South Elmham, 20 March and Carlton Marshes (four), 25 March.
The female Ring-necked Parakeet was seen at Oulton on 19 and 22 March. The first Sand Martin of the year was recorded at Outney Common, 19 March, with a White Wagtail and three Water Pipits at Carlton Marshes, 19 March and a singing male Blackcap at Oulton Marshes, 22 March. 24 Waxwings were noted at Worlingham, 20 March and six Crossbills at Ashby, 21 March. Lesser Redpolls were recorded at Outney Common (nine), 19 March and Worlingham Marshes (four), 22 March, with a flock of 100 Siskins also present at Worlingham Marshes on the same day. A Stonechat was noted at Carlton Marshes, 19 March, a Bearded Tit, at Lopham Fen, 25 March, Cetti’s Warblers at Carlton Marshes (five) and Oulton Marshes, 22 March and Lopham Fen, 25 March and Kingfishers at Outney Common (two) and Earsham (two), 19 March and Carlton Marshes, 22 March.
Raptors included Red Kites at Bungay (three), 19 March and Ditchingham (two), 20 March, a Peregrine at Carlton Marshes, 24 March and Marsh Harriers at Haddiscoe Island (seven), 19 March, Lopham Fen (two), 20 March and Carlton Marshes (three), 25 March, with five Buzzards at Carlton Marshes on the same day. Short-eared Owls were seen at Haddiscoe Island, 23 March, Oulton Marshes, 24 March and Carlton Marshes (two), 25 March and Barn Owls at Carlton Marshes and Earsham, 21 March.
Waders at Burgh Castle included a Spotted Redshank, 200 Avocets, 100 Black-tailed Godwits, 100 Redshanks and two Curlews, 19 March, while at Carlton Marshes, a Black-tailed Godwit and four Redshanks were present on 19 March and two Knot, a Ruff and a Dunlin, 22 March. A Redshank was noted at Beccles Marshes, 21 March.
