WBC Sightings

2 to 8 October 2016

A Yellow-browed Warbler was present in a garden at Thorpe-next-Haddiscoe, 3 October and another was found dead in Oulton, 8 October. A Ring Ouzel was seen along Marsh Lane, Worlingham, 2 October, with two present at this site, 6 October and another was seen at Oulton, 8 October. A Brambling was reported from Ditchingham, 6 October and the first Redwings of the autumn were recorded on 2 October, with singles at Beccles, Lopham Fen and Wortham Ling. A Stonechat was present at Herringfleet Marshes, 3 October and nearby a Grey Wagtail and 40 Siskins were seen at St Olaves, 6 October. Bearded Tits were noted at St Olaves (16), Herringfleet Marshes (four) and Castle Marsh, North Cove, 3 October and Lopham Fen, 4 October, a Cetti’s Warbler was also seen at Castle Marsh, 3 October and a Kingfisher at St Olaves, 6 October. The count of Pied Wagtails at Lopham Fen had increased to 129, 4 October.

A particularly unusual record concerned a juvenile Arctic Skua that flew high over Oulton, 3 October and 17 Pink-footed Geese flew south at St Olaves, 2 October.

Marsh Harriers were noted at Castle Marsh, 3 October and Carlton Marshes (three), 7 October and a group of seven Buzzards flew over Bungay, 3 October.

Finally, three Dunlin and two Little Egrets were present at Carlton Marshes, 7 October.
