WBC Sightings

2 to 8 February 2014

The long-staying Glossy Ibis remained at Oulton Marshes all week, while Little Egrets were present at Carlton Marshes (two), 3 February and Mendham Marshes, 7 February.

A Rough-legged Buzzard was present at Haddiscoe Island all week. A Peregrine was seen at Castle Marsh, North Cove, 6 February, while Marsh Harriers were noted from Castle Marsh (three), 2 February and Beccles Marshes and Carlton Marshes (three), 4 February. A Barn Owl was recorded at Beccles Marshes, 2 February.

Notable passerines included three Stonechats at Castle Marsh and a Chiffchaff at Sprat’s Water, Carlton Colville, 2 February, two Lesser Redpolls at Sprat’s Water and 13 Crossbills at Ashby, 3 February, a Cetti’s Warbler at Beccles Marshes, 4 February and a female Blackcap in a member’s garden at Worlingham, 5 and 6 February.

Three Bewick’s Swans were present at Gillingham Marshes throughout the week and a count of 430 Wigeon was made at Oulton Marshes, 3 February. Finally, 12 Grey Partridges were noted at Ashby, 3 February, a Jack Snipe was seen at Barsham Marshes, 4 February and 24 Snipe were counted at Oulton Marshes, 5 February.
