WBC Sightings

21 to 27 May 2017

A Ring Ouzel was seen at Lopham Fen, 24 May. Turtle Doves were recorded at Thorpe Abbotts and Weybread GP, 24 May and Spotted Flycatchers at Beccles Common (two), 22 May and Worlingham Sewage Works, 27 May. Two Yellow Wagtails were seen at Carlton Marshes, 21 May and Grey Wagtails at Somerleyton Hall (two), 21 May and Weybread Mill (two), 24 May. Cuckoos were noted at St Olaves, 21 May and Carlton Marshes (four), Lopham Fen (three) and Oulton Marshes, 24 May; Grasshopper Warblers at Lopham Fen, 24 May and Carlton Marshes (two), 26 May; Cetti’s Warblers at Lopham Fen (two), Blundeston Marshes, Burgh Castle and Somerleyton Marshes, 21 May, Oulton Marshes (two) and Carlton Marshes, 24 May and Worlingham Marshes, 26 May and Bearded Tits at Thorpe-next-Haddiscoe, 22 May, Oulton Marshes (two), 24 May and Lopham Fen (two), 25 May. A pair of Stonechats was feeding young at Carlton Marshes, 22 May and a second pair has bred at Oulton Marshes this spring.

A Spoonbill was present at Carlton Marshes, 27 May and a Little Egret, was noted at the same site on 25 May.

Waders at Carlton Marshes included seven Ringed Plovers, 22 May, a Wood Sandpiper and 35 Black-tailed Godwits, 25 May and a Dunlin, 27 May, while two Avocets were seen at Burgh Castle, 21 May.

Hobbies were recorded at Somerleyton (two), Carlton Marshes, Redenhall and St Olaves, 21 May, Beccles, 22 May, Lopham Fen (two), 24 May and Oulton Marshes (two), 26 May. A Red Kite and five Buzzards flew over Carlton Marshes, 21 May, while Barn Owls were reported from Carlton Marshes, 24 May and Lopham Fen (two), 25 May.
