WBC Sightings

21 to 27 June 2015

Wader migration intensified, with Carlton Marshes hosting five Avocets, 25 to 27 June, two Redshanks, 26 June and one Spotted Redshank, one Greenshank and two Green Sandpipers, 27 June. Elsewhere, a Curlew was seen at Oulton Marshes, 21 June and four Avocets, 30 Curlews and two Redshanks at Burgh Castle, 26 June. A juvenile Crane was present at Carlton Marshes, 25 June, with a Bittern noted at the same site, 23 June and five Little Egrets, 21 June. Little Egrets were also recorded at Burgh Castle (five), 26 June and Somerleyton, 27 June.

A Turtle Dove was noted at Belton Common, 27 June, Cuckoos at Oulton Marshes, 21 June and Carlton Marshes, 23 June and Kingfishers at Beccles Marshes and Carlton Marshes, 23 June and Barsham Marshes, 26 June. A Siskin was an unusual mid-summer sighting at Thorpe-next-Haddiscoe, 27 June. A Spotted Flycatcher was seen at Waveney Forest, Fritton, 23 June, two Bearded Tits at Herringfleet Marshes, 24 June and a Grey Wagtail at Weybread Mill, 26 June, while Cetti’s Warblers were reported from Carlton Marshes (two), 21 June, Beccles Marshes (two), 23 June, Herringfleet Marshes (three), 24 June, Barsham Marshes, 26 June and Somerleyton, 27 June.

Raptors included a Red Kite at Gillingham, 24 June, Hobbies at Oulton Marshes (two) and Carlton Marshes, 21 June and St Olaves, 25 June and three Buzzards at Ashby, 21 June. Barn Owls were reported from Lopham Fen, 21 June, Waveney Forest, 23 June, Beccles and Weybread, 24 June, Carlton Marshes (two), 25 June and Barsham, 26 June.
