WBC Sightings

21 to 27 October 2018

Jack Snipe were seen at Thorpe-next-Haddiscoe (five), 21 October and Lopham Fen, 27 October, while a count of 22 (Common) Snipe was made at Carlton Marshes, 25 October and 16 Black-tailed Godwits were present at Herringfleet Marshes, 23 October

The long-staying adult Cattle Egret at Carlton Marshes remained throughout the week, while. Little Egrets were reported from Lopham Fen, 21 October, Herringfleet Marshes, 23 October and Carlton Marshes (three), 25 October.

A Brambling was seen at Thorpe-next-Haddiscoe, 24 October and a Water Pipit at Carlton Marshes, 25 October. A Kingfisher was noted at Redgrave Fen and five Bearded Tits at Lopham Fen, 21 October, two Stonechats at Herringfleet Marshes, 23 October and three Cetti’s Warbler at Carlton Marshes, 25 October. A flock of 250 Fieldfares flew west over Lopham Fen, 25 October.

Counts of Pink-footed Geese included 600 at Somerleyton, 24 October, 250 at Ashby, 25 October and 900 at Blundeston, 27 October.

Two Marsh Harriers were seen at Beccles Marshes, 27 October and a Short-eared Owl and a Barn Owl were hunting at Carlton Marshes, 22 October.
