WBC Sightings

22 to 28 May 2016

Red Kites were seen at Castle Marsh, North Cove and Ellingham, 23 May and a Peregrine at Flixton GP, 28 May. Hobbies were recorded at Castle Marsh (two) and Belton Wood, 22 May and Oulton Marshes and Thorpe-next-Haddiscoe, 27 May. Four Buzzards were seen at Castle Marsh, 22 May, with four also seen at Carlton Marshes, 28 May. A Short-eared Owl was hunting at Carlton Marshes, 22 May, while Barn Owls were noted at Haddiscoe Island, 22 May and Carlton Marshes, 23 May.

A Turtle Dove was seen at Homersfield, 27 May, while Cuckoos were recorded at Belton Marshes, Burgh Castle, Castle Marsh and St Olaves, 22 May, Harleston, 25 May, Carlton Marshes (three), 26 May and Oulton Marshes (three), 27 May. Single Yellow Wagtails were seen at Oulton Marshes, 27 May and Carlton Marshes, 28 May and two Grey Wagtails at Flixton (near Bungay), 28 May. Stonechats were present at Carlton Marshes, 23 May and Oulton Marshes, 24 May. Three Grasshopper Warblers were reeling at Carlton Marshes, 22 May and Cetti’s Warbler were heard at Castle Marsh (two) and Burgh Castle, 22 May, Beccles Marshes (four) and Oulton Marshes (three), 24 May and Carlton Marshes (three) and Somerleyton Marshes, 27 May.

A Whimbrel, six Avocets and six Redshanks were present at Burgh Castle Flats, 22 May, while waders at Carlton Marshes included a Little Ringed Plover, 22 May, three Redshanks, 23 May, a Common Sandpiper, 24 May and two Ringed Plovers, 28 May. Finally, Little Egrets were reported from Carlton Marshes (two), 23 May and Oulton Marshes, 24 May.
