WBC Sightings

22 to 28 April 2018

The American Bittern at Carlton Marshes was seen daily through the week. Little Egrets were noted at Herringfleet Marshes (two) and Carlton Marshes, 25 April.

The first Swifts of the year (a flock of six) were recorded at Carlton Marshes, 25 April. A Ring Ouzel was seen at Carlton Marshes, 22 April, with a Stonechat at the same site, 25 April and three Yellow Wagtails, 28 April. Wheatears were noted at Carlton Marshes (six), 25 April and Blundeston (two), 26 April; Cuckoos at Oulton Marshes (two), 22 April and Carlton Marshes (three), 26 April; Grasshopper Warblers at Oulton Marshes (two), 22 April and Carlton Marshes (three) and Castle Marsh, North Cove, 25 April and Cetti’s Warblers at Oulton Marshes (three) and Carlton Marshes, 22 April.

Waders at Carlton Marshes included three Ruff, 22 April, a Jack Snipe, 23 April, a Little Ringed Plover, 24 April, ten Avocets, a Greenshank, 11 Snipe and five Redshanks, 25 April, a Green Sandpiper, 26 April and 27 Whimbrel, 28 April. Elsewhere, a Green Sandpiper was seen at Thorpe Marshes, Haddiscoe and four Redshanks at Oulton Marshes, 22 April and 19 Whimbrel at Castle Marsh, 25 April.

A male Hen Harrier flew over Carlton Marshes, 22 April and a Red Kite flew over the same site on 28 April. Hobbies were recorded at Somerleyton, 22 April, Castle Marsh, 25 April and Carlton Marshes, 27 April, with Short-eared Owls at Carlton Marshes and Oulton Marshes, 26 April and a Barn Owl noted at Carlton Marshes on the same day.
