This week’s highlights included a White Stork at Earsham, 26 March and two male Garganeys at Redgrave Fen, 27 March.
Wader migration gained momentum with a Bar-tailed Godwit, 220 Black-tailed Godwits, 100 Avocets, three Spotted Redshanks, 80 (Common) Redshanks and 31 Curlews at Burgh Castle, 22 March, while Carlton Marshes hosted a Ruff, 22 March, a Little Ringed Plover and two Green Sandpipers, 27 March and two Spotted Redshanks, eight (Common) Redshanks and a Dunlin, 28 March. Woodcock were recorded at Puddingmoor, Beccles, 22 March and Fisher Row, Oulton (three) and St Olaves, 23 March. Little Egrets were noted at Carlton Marshes, 22 March and Lopham Fen (three), 27 March.
The first singing Blackcap of the year was heard at Beccles Quay, 25 March. Two Rock Pipits were present at Carlton Marshes, 22 March, with Grey Wagtails seen at Beccles and Ditchingham Park, 23 March and Kingfishers at Carlton Marshes (three), 22 March and Beccles Quay, 24 March.
Haddiscoe Island hosted a Merlin, 22 March and a Rough-legged Buzzard, 25 March. Counts of Buzzards included seven at Aldeby, 22 March, four at Beccles, 24 March and three at Ditchingham, 25 March. A Short-eared Owl was hunting at Carlton Marshes, 22 March, while Barn Owls were reported from Somerleyton, 23 March, Beccles Marshes (two), 24 March and Haddiscoe Marshes (two), 27 March.
