WBC Sightings

23 February to 1 March 2014

Parrot Crossbills were recorded at Waveney Forest, Fritton almost daily, with 13 on 23 February, nine on 24 February, one on 25 February, three on 26 February and two on 1 March, while sightings of Common Crossbills included one on 23 and 25 February and five on 26 and 28 February at Waveney Forest and two at Ashby on 28 February. Other notable passerines included a Grey Wagtail at Weybread Mill and two Cetti’s Warblers at Oulton Marshes, 26 February and a flock of 20 Lesser Redpolls at Earsham GP, 28 February.

The two Glossy Ibis at Oulton Marshes remained to 26 February with one still present to the end of the week, while Little Egrets were present at Castle Marsh, North Cove (three), 24 February, Earsham, 28 February and Carlton Marshes (six) and Oulton Marshes, 1 March.

One Rough-legged Buzzard was present at Haddiscoe Island throughout the week, with two seen on 26 and 28 February. Other raptors included a Merlin at Haddiscoe Island, 26 February, Peregrines at Haddiscoe Island, 28 February and Burgh Marshes, Burgh St Peter, 1 March and Marsh Harriers at Castle Marsh (two), 24 February and Haddiscoe Island (three), 28 February. Two Barn Owls were noted at Oulton Marshes, 1 March.

Finally, a flock of 275 Golden Plover was present at Ellough airfield from 25 to 27 February at least.
