A male Wood Warbler was singing at Carlton Marshes on the morning of 28 April. Carlton Marshes also hosted two male Blue-headed Wagtails, 27 April and two White Wagtails, a Grey Wagtail and two Wheatears, 30 April. A Redstart was seen at Barsham Marshes, 25 April and two Nightingales were recorded at Outney Common, Bungay, 27 April. The first Turtle Dove (Weybread, 29 April) and Garden Warbler (singles at Beccles and Belton, 30 April) of the year arrived during the week. Yellow Wagtails were noted at Burgh Castle (100 roosted), 24 April, Barsham Marshes, 25 April and Carlton Marshes (five), 30 April, Cuckoos at Carlton Marshes, 27 April and Gillingham Marshes and Lopham Fen, 30 April and Grasshopper Warblers at Herringfleet Marshes, 25 April and Carlton Marshes (eight), 30 April. A Stonechat was present at Castle Marsh, North Cove and a Bearded Tit at Herringfleet Marshes, 25 April and four Lesser Redpolls at Beccles Marshes, 30 April. Cetti’s Warblers were reported from Herringfleet Marshes (three), 25 April and Carlton Marshes (five), Oulton Marshes (three) and Somerleyton (three), 30 April and Kingfishers from Carlton Marshes, 24 April, Redgrave Fen, 26 April and Outney Common, 27 April.
Cranes flew over Belton Marshes, Blundeston Marshes (two) and Carlton Marshes (three), 24 April. Little Egrets were reported from Castle Marsh, 24 April, Herringfleet Marshes, 25 April, Outney Common (two), 27 April, Carlton Marshes (two), 28 April and Fritton Marshes and Oulton Marshes, 29 April.
Waders at Carlton Marshes included two Spotted Redshanks, three Little Ringed Plovers and a Dunlin, 24 April, 17 Whimbrel, 27 April, two Greenshanks, 29 April and a Wood Sandpiper, a Black-tailed Godwit and two Redshanks, 30 April, while Aldeby shooting lakes hosted three Black-tailed Godwits, 24 April and a Spotted Redshank, six Greenshanks and two Redshanks, 25 April. Further Whimbrel were recorded at Burgh Castle (15), 24 April, Castle Marsh (11), 27 April, Worlingham Marshes (eight), 29 April and Beccles Marshes (40), 30 April, with a Green Sandpiper and a Redshank at Worlingham Marshes, 24 April.
Peregrines were noted at Haddiscoe Island, 24 April, Burgh Castle, 27 April and Carlton Marshes, 30 April, Short-eared Owls at Belton Marshes, 24 April and Haddiscoe Island (three) and Carlton Marshes, 27 April and Barn Owls at Worlingham Marshes, 24 April, Carlton Marshes (two), 27 April and Beccles Marshes, 30 April.
