Two Scaup remained at Beccles Quay throughout the week and were joined by a third, 26 January. The previously reported group of eight Whooper Swans were present at Aldeby shooting lakes, 25 January, Gillingham Marshes, 26 January and flew north-east over Beccles Marshes, 29 January, while 62 Pink-footed Geese flew south at St Olaves, 27 January.
Raptors at Haddiscoe Island included a Rough-legged Buzzard and ten Marsh Harriers, 25 January and a male Hen Harrier, three Buzzards, three Short-eared Owls and two Barn Owls, 31 January. Marsh Harriers were also recorded at Castle Marsh, North Cove (two), 26 January, Beccles Marshes (four), Burgh Castle (two) and Carlton Marshes, 27 January and Herringfleet Marshes, 29 January, while three Buzzards were seen at Carlton Marshes, 27 January. Two Short-eared Owls were noted at Belton Marshes, 25 January, with Barn Owls reported from Belton Marshes, 25 January, Herringfleet Marshes, 29 January and Waveney Forest, Fritton (two), 31 January.
Unusual passerines included a Tree Sparrow feeding in a garden at Herringfleet, 29 January and a Nuthatch at Dunburgh Hill, 31 January. A Chiffchaff was seen near Roos Hall, Beccles, 31 January. Bearded Tits were noted at Burgh Castle, 27 January and Herringfleet Marshes (two), 29 January, Stonechats at Castle Marsh (two) and Oulton Marshes, 26 January, Cetti’s Warbler at Castle Marsh (two), 25 January and Herringfleet Marshes, 29 January and Kingfishers at Weybread GP, 25 January, Beccles Quay, 26 January and Bungay, 27 January.
Waders included 15 Ruff and a Woodcock at Castle Marsh and seven Woodcock at Waveney Forest, 25 January, 17 Redshanks at Carlton Marshes, 27 January and four Avocets, six Black-tailed Godwits, 22 Curlews and 50 Dunlin at Burgh Castle, 31 January. Finally, Little Egrets were recorded at Weybread GP (seven), Carlton Marshes and Castle Marsh, 25 January, Beccles Quay, 26 January and Burgh Castle, 27 January.
