WBC Sightings

25 February to 3 March 2018

A Jack Snipe was seen at Oulton Marshes, 1 March, while at nearby Carlton Marshes a Ruff and 34 Snipe were recorded, 26 February and two Green Sandpipers, 2 March. Woodcock were noted at Beccles and Somerleyton, 28 February, St Olaves, 1 March and Carlton Marshes and Oulton, 2 March.

The long-staying Rough-legged Buzzard at Haddiscoe Island was seen on 25 February, together with a Peregrine and a Short-eared Owl. Elsewhere, Marsh Harriers were noted at Lopham Fen, 25 February, Carlton Marshes, 26 February and Herringfleet Marshes (four), 27 February and Barn Owls at Carlton Marshes (four), 26 February, Somerleyton Marshes, 28 February, Herringfleet Marshes (three), Lopham Fen, Oulton Marshes and Thorpe-next-Haddiscoe, 3 March.

Two Stonechats were seen at Oulton Marshes, 25 February, a Chiffchaff at Bungay, 1 March and five Bearded Tits at Lopham Fen, 3 March. Grey Wagtails were recorded at Beccles and Weybread Mill, 25 February; Bramblings at St Olaves (three) and North Cove SWT reserve, 27 February and Lopham Fen, 3 March; Lesser Redpolls at Oulton Marshes, 25 February, North Cove SWT reserve (three), 27 February, Lopham Fen (two), 28 February and Carlton Marshes (ten), 3 March and Kingfishers at Weybread GP (three) and Oulton Marshes, 25 February.

Finally, a count of 300 Wigeon was made at Carlton Marshes and Little Egrets were reported from Weybread GP (eight) and Carlton Marshes, 25 February.
