WBC Sightings

25 to 31 March 2018

Three Cranes flew north over Castle Marsh, North Cove, 31 March and a Red-throated Diver was seen nearby on the river the previous day. An adult Spoonbill was present at Carlton Marshes and a Bittern was noted at Thorpe Marshes, Haddiscoe, 25 March, while Little Egrets were recorded at Carlton Marshes (two) and Weybread GP (two), 26 March, Herringfleet Marshes, 29 March and Lopham Fen, 30 March.

Waders included a Jack Snipe and 25 Snipe at Thorpe Marshes, 25 March, while at Carlton Marshes, two Dunlin were noted on 25 March and ten Redshanks on 30 March.

Notable raptor records included two Red Kites at Mettingham and two Peregrines at Haddiscoe Island, 25 March, five Buzzards at Ellingham, 29 March and Marsh Harriers at Thorpe Marshes (two), 25 March and Carlton Marshes (five) and Lopham Fen (three), 31 March. Four Short-eared Owls were hunting at Haddiscoe Island, 25 March, while Barn Owls were reported from Haddiscoe Island (three), 25 March and Carlton Marshes, 30 March.

Bramblings were noted at Thorpe-next-Haddiscoe (four), 28 March and St Olaves (two), 29 March, Lesser Redpolls at Waveney Forest, Fritton (five), 25 March and Lopham Fen (two), 30 March and a Kingfisher at Carlton Marshes, 25 March.
