WBC Sightings

27 July to 2 August 2014

Waders at Carlton Marshes included a Wood Sandpiper, a Common Sandpiper, a Knot, five Black-tailed Godwits, two Curlews, 21 Snipe and a Redshank, 27 July, a Greenshank, 29 July and a Dunlin and five Green Sandpipers, 31 July. Elsewhere, a Green Sandpiper and three Common Sandpipers were present at Burgh Castle, 30 July and a Common Sandpiper at Earsham GP, 2 August.

Six Garganey were present at Carlton Marshes on 27 July, with four on 29 and 30 July, two on 31 July and one on 1 August. A Mediterranean Gull flew north over Carlton Marshes, 27 July. Little Egrets were recorded at Carlton Marshes (two), 27 July and Burgh Castle (54) and Redgrave Fen, 30 July.

Notable passerines recorded at Carlton Marshes on 27 July included two Yellow Wagtails, two singing Grasshopper Warblers, 500 Swallows and 60 Goldfinches. A total of 53 Yellow Wagtails roosted at Burgh Castle, 30 July, while a juvenile Wheatear was present at Barsham Marshes, 31 July. Two Turtle Doves were recorded at Belton, 29 July and single Kingfishers at Burgh Castle, 30 July and Puddingmoor, Beccles, 31 July.

Finally, single Hobbies were noted at Burgh Castle and St James South Elmham, 30 July.
