WBC Sightings

28 August to 3 September 2016

A Great White Egret was present briefly at Carlton Marshes early morning on 1 September, while Little Egrets were noted at Carlton Marshes (four) and Lopham Fen (two), 29 August.

Wheatears were present at Oulton, 1 September and Carlton Marshes the following day. Two Spotted Flycatchers were recorded at Lopham Fen, 1 September and a late Swift was seen at Broome, 3 September. Yellow Wagtails were noted at St James South Elmham (eight), 28 August and Carlton Marshes, 30 August and a Grey Wagtail at Worlingham Marshes, 2 September. Two Bearded Tits were seen at Lopham Fen, 29 August, a Cetti’s Warbler was noted at Carlton Marshes, 3 September and Kingfishers were reported from Bungay and Lopham Fen, 29 August and Burgh Castle, 31 August.

Waders at Carlton Marshes included five Greenshanks, a Green Sandpiper, a Little Ringed Plover and two Dunlin, 29 August, a Little Stint, 30 August and six Ruffs, eight Black-tailed Godwits and two Ringed Plovers, 2 September. Elsewhere, a Curlew flew over Lopham Fen, 29 August, a Greenshank and four Green Sandpipers were present at St James South Elmham, 28 August, with the first Golden Plovers noted back in the village on 1 September and two Green Sandpipers and 14 Snipe were seen at Earsham GP, 3 September.

Notable raptor sightings at Carlton Marshes included two Hobbies and three Buzzards, 29 August, seven Barn Owls, 31 August and a Marsh Harrier, 3 September. Elsewhere, a Red Kite was seen at Ditchingham, 1 September and further Hobbies were recorded at St Olaves (two), 29 August, Worlingham Marshes, 2 September and Somerleyton (two), 3 September.
