WBC Sightings

28 May to 3 June 2017

A first-summer Night Heron was seen in flight at Carlton Marshes during the evening of 31 May, with a Cattle Egret briefly present on the scrape at the same site on the previous day and two Spoonbills present there on 3 June, while Little Egrets were noted at Oulton Marshes, 28 May and Carlton Marshes (two), 30 May. A pair of Garganey was also present at Carlton Marshes on 30 May.

A Turtle Dove was seen at Wortham, 30 May and a pair of Spotted Flycatchers at Brockdish, 2 June. Eight Yellow Wagtails were recorded at Burgh Castle, 1 June and two Bearded Tits at Lopham Fen, 2 June. Cuckoos were noted at Oulton Marshes, 28 May, St Olaves, 1 June and Carlton Marshes (three) and Lopham Fen (three), 2 June and Cetti’s Warbler at Oulton Marshes, 28 May,12 were singing along the river between Beccles and Burgh St Peter, 29 May, Carlton Marshes (two), 1 June and Lopham Fen, 2 June.

Single Red Kites flew over Beccles Common, 30 May and Thorpe Abbotts, 2 June and a Hobby was hunting at Carlton Marshes, 1 June. Barn Owls were noted at Oulton Marshes, 28 May and Carlton Marshes, 1 June.
