WBC Sightings

3 to 9 August 2014

An unseasonable male Hen Harrier flew north over Belton, 5 August. Hobbies were seen at Flixton GP and Waveney Forest, Fritton (two), 3 August, Beccles Marshes, 5 August and Carlton Marshes and Thorpe-next-Haddiscoe, 6 August, with five Buzzards also noted at Waveney Forest, 3 August. Barn Owls were reported from St James South Elmham, 4 August and Thorpe-next-Haddiscoe, 6 August.

The migration of Green Sandpipers gained momentum with singles at Earsham GP and Flixton GP, 3 August and Thorpe-next-Haddiscoe, 6 August and eight at Carlton Marshes, 8 August, with Greenshank at Burgh Castle, 3 August, Thorpe-next-Haddiscoe (three), August and Carlton Marshes, 9 August. Common Sandpipers were seen at Burgh Castle, 3 August and Flixton GP (five), 3 August and the first Golden Plover of the ‘autumn’ was noted at St James South Elmham, 5 August. Three Little Egrets were present at Carlton Marshes, 9 August.

A Turtle Dove was seen at Flixton GP, 3 August. Yellow Wagtails were recorded at Burgh Castle (four) and Flixton GP, 3 August and Spotted Flycatchers at St James South Elmham (three), 4 August and Beccles Marshes (four), 5 August, with a Cetti’s Warbler also noted at Beccles Marshes on the same day.
