WBC Sightings

4 to 10 January 2015

A flock of 100 Bewick’s Swans flew north-west over Bungay, 4 January, while two Bewick’s Swans were present at Castle Marsh, North Cove, 8 January.

A Water Pipit was seen at Carlton Marshes, 7 January. Two Grey Wagtails were recorded at Outney Common, Bungay, 4 January and three Cetti’s Warblers at Herringfleet Marshes, 8 January, while Bearded Tits were noted at Burgh Castle (six) and Belton Marshes, 4 January and Herringfleet Marshes (six), 8 January and Kingfishers at Carlton Marshes, 6 January and Outney Common, 10 January.

Haddiscoe Island hosted two ringtail Hen Harriers and 15 Marsh Harriers, 4 January and a Peregrine, a male Hen Harrier and five Buzzards, 7 January. Elsewhere, Marsh Harriers were noted at Belton Marshes, 4 January and Carlton Marshes (three) and Herringfleet Marshes (two), 8 January, while four Buzzards were seen at Bath Hills, Ditchingham, 10 January. Short-eared Owls were present at Belton Marshes, 4 January and Waveney Forest, Fritton, 7 January and Barn Owls at Belton Marshes (three), Lopham Fen and Outney Common, 4 January and Barnby, 10 January.

Wader records included 2000 Golden Plovers and 25 Curlews at Haddiscoe Island, 4 January and 600 Lapwings, two Green Sandpipers and 20 Redshanks at Carlton Marshes, 6 January. Green Sandpipers were also recorded at Ditchingham and Outney Common, 10 January. Finally, Little Egrets were noted at Outney Common (seven), 4 January, Herringfleet Marshes, 5 January and Haddiscoe Island (three), 7 January.
