WBC Sightings

4 to 10 August 2013

Three Cranes were present at Belton Marshes, 7 August. An immature Spoonbill circled over the scrape at Carlton Marshes before flying off north late morning on 10 August, and two immatures flew east in the evening on the same day. A Bittern was seen at Haddiscoe Island, 10 August, while Little Egrets were present at Burgh Castle (15), 4 August, Carlton Marshes (12), 6 August, and Redgrave Fen (three), 10 August.

A Garganey was present at Carlton Marshes, 10 August, and a second-summer Caspian Gull and an adult Yellow-legged Gull were seen along nearby Burnt Hill Lane, 5 August.

Waders at Carlton Marshes included a Spotted Redshank, a Dunlin and three Green Sandpipers, 5 August, three Green Sandpipers, 6 August, a Redshank, 9 August, and a Wood Sandpiper, a Black-tailed Godwit, 14 Greenshanks, a Dunlin, and a Redshank, 10 August. Elsewhere, a Greenshank, two Common Sandpipers and two Green Sandpipers were present at Burgh Castle, 4 August, six Green Sandpipers and four Common Sandpipers at Belton Marshes, 7 August, and a Wood Sandpiper and three Green Sandpipers at Redgrave Fen and a Green Sandpiper and four Golden Plovers at Haddiscoe Island, 10 August

A Crossbill flew east over Carlton Marshes, 10 August, while juvenile Cuckoos were seen at Belton Marshes, 4 August, and Carlton Marshes, 10 August.

Notable raptors included a Hobby at Burgh Castle, 4 August, a Red Kite at Carlton Marshes, 10 August, and Marsh Harriers at Beccles Marshes, 6 August, and Barsham, 8 August. Finally, single Barn Owls were noted at Mendham Marshes, 7 August, and Carlton Marshes, 10 August.
