WBC Sightings

5 to 11 July 2015

An Osprey was seen at Burgh Castle, 5 July and at Carlton Marshes the following day. Other raptors included Hobbies at Beccles Marshes (four) and Carlton Marshes, 7 July, Belton (two) and St Olaves, 8 July and Lopham Fen, 11 July, two Peregrines at St Olaves and four Buzzards at Ditchingham, 9 July. Barn Owls were reported from Burgh Castle and Carlton Marshes, 5 July, Lopham Fen (two), 9 July, Beccles Marshes (two) and Oulton Marshes (two), 10 July and Gillingham, 11 July.

Waders at Carlton Marshes included a Wood Sandpiper, three Ruffs, a Greenshank and a Dunlin, 5 July, 30 Black-tailed Godwits, six Green Sandpipers and a Redshank, 6 July and two Little Ringed Plovers and a Curlew, 7 July, while at Burgh Castle Flats, 5 July, 75 Avocets, 19 Black-tailed Godwits, 13 Curlews and six Redshanks were present. Elsewhere, Green Sandpipers were noted at Earsham GP (four), 6 July and Lopham Fen, 9 July.

A Turtle Dove was heard at St James South Elmham, 9 July, while Cuckoos were seen at Carlton Marshes, 10 July and Lopham Fen, 11 July and Kingfishers at Beccles Marshes, 9 July and Ditchingham (two), 10 July. Grasshopper Warblers were recorded at Carlton Marshes, 5 July and Lopham Fen, 9 July and Cetti’s Warblers at Carlton Marshes, 6 July, Beccles Marshes and Somerleyton, 7 July, Herringfleet Marshes, 9 July and Oulton Marshes (two), 11 July. A Grey Wagtail was noted at Ditchingham, 9 July and Bearded Tits were noted at Burgh Castle, 5 July and Herringfleet Marshes (two) and Lopham Fen (two), 9 July.

A Mediterranean Gull was seen at Burgh Castle Flats, 5 July. Finally, Little Egrets were reported from Carlton Marshes (five), 6 July, Herringfleet Marshes, 9 July and Barsham Marshes (five), Lopham Fen (two) and Oulton Marshes (two), 11 July.
