WBC Sightings

6 to 12 March 2016

The Cattle Egret remained at North Cove throughout the week, while Little Egrets were seen at Carlton Marshes (four), 12 March, Earsham (three), 10 March and Burgh Castle, 11 March.

A male Goosander was on the river opposite Roos Hall, Beccles, 7 March.

A male Hen Harrier, a Peregrine, three Buzzards and three Short-eared Owls were recorded at Haddiscoe Island, 6 March. Elsewhere, Peregrines were seen at Carlton Marshes, 11 March and Redgrave Fen, 12 March, Buzzards at Beccles (four), 8 March and Earsham (three), 10 March and Barn Owls at North Cove and Wortham, 6 March, Beccles Marshes (two), 10 March, Carlton Marshes, 11 March and Gillingham and Oulton Marshes, 12 March.

Chiffchaffs were noted at Beccles, 7 March and Burgh Castle, 12 March; Bearded Tits at Fritton Marshes, 6 March, Carlton Marshes, 8 March and Lopham Fen, 12 March; Grey Wagtails at Beccles and Diss Mere, 12 March and Lesser Redpolls at North Cove (three), 11 March and Burgh Castle, 12 March. Three Cetti’s Warblers were heard at North Cove, 6 March and a flock of 30 Siskins were present at Barsham Marshes, 12 March. Kingfishers were reported from Beccles (two), 10 March and Redgrave Fen, 12 March.

Waders at Burgh Castle included 120 Curlews and three Redshanks, 11 March and 64 Avocets and 462 Black-tailed Godwits the following day.
