WBC Sightings

6 to 12 July 2014

A colour-ringed Glossy Ibis was present at Carlton Marshes during the evening of 6 July, while sightings of Little Egret included 12 at Carlton Marshes, 8 July and one at Belton Marshes, 12 July.

An Osprey carrying a fish flew north over the A146 at Beccles, 12 July. Hobbies were recorded at Carlton Marshes and St Olaves, 8 July and Barn Owls at Carlton Marshes (two), 6 July and Oulton Marshes, 12 July.

A Sandwich Tern was an unusual sighting at Carlton Marshes, 9 July, with an adult summer-plumaged Little Gull and a high count of eight Garganey at the same site on 12 July.

Waders at Carlton Marshes included a Curlew, 7 July, a Redshank, 8 July, a moulting male Ruff, 9 July, a Greenshank and six Green Sandpipers, 11 July and seven Wood Sandpipers and a Common Sandpiper, 12 July. Elsewhere, 12 Common Sandpipers were present at Oulton Marshes, 8 July.

Two Turtle Doves were seen at Beccles Marshes, 8 July. Two Grasshopper Warblers were reeling at Carlton Marshes, 6 July, while Cetti’s Warblers were noted at Beccles Marshes (four) and Burgh Castle (two), 8 July.
