Two Cranes circled over Carlton Marshes late morning on 10 April before heading off west. Little Egrets were noted at Carlton Marshes (two), 11 April, Weybread GP (two), 12 April and Ditchingham, 14 April.
A male Redstart was seen at Carlton Marshes, 10 April. In addition, the first Whitethroat (Beccles Marshes, 11 April), Reed Warbler (Carlton Marshes,12 April), House Martin (two at Weybread GP and one at Oulton, 12 April) and Wheatear (Ditchingham, 14 April) of the year were recorded during the week. Two Wheatears were also present at Carlton Marshes, 15 April, with further sightings from this site including four Water Pipits, 10 April, two Yellow Wagtails and two Stonechats, 12 April, 13 Cetti’s Warblers, 13 April and a Grasshopper Warbler, 15 April. Cetti’s Warblers were also reported from Herringfleet Marshes, 10 April, and Burgh Castle, 14 April and Kingfishers from Weybread GP (two), 12 April and Ditchingham, 14 April. Two Grey Wagtails were seen at Ditchingham, 14 April and 40 Yellow Wagtails roosted at Burgh Castle, 15 April.
Waders at Carlton Marshes included a Greenshank, a Black-tailed Godwit, three Ruffs and two Little Ringed Plovers, 10 April, three Whimbrels and three Redshanks, 11 April, a Jack Snipe, 12 April and a Green Sandpiper, 13 April. Elsewhere, 30 Snipe were counted at Oulton Marshes, 10 April and two Whimbrels at Beccles Marshes, a Spotted Redshank and 40 Redshanks at Burgh Castle and two Redshanks at Earsham GP, 14 April. The first Common Tern of the year was seen at Weybread GP, 12 April.
Red Kites were seen at Carlton Marshes (two) and Haddiscoe (two), 10 April and Ditchingham (two), 14 April, a Peregrine was recorded at Carlton Marshes, 10 April and five Buzzards were noted at Ditchingham, 14 April. Short-eared Owls were hunting at Oulton Marshes, 10 April and Carlton Marshes (two), 13 April and Barn Owls were reported from Lopham Fen, 9 April, Oulton Marshes, 10 April, Carlton Marshes (two), 12 April and Ditchingham, 14 April.
