WBC Sightings

9 to 15 March 2014

The Glossy Ibis at Oulton Marshes was last seen on 11 March, while Little Egrets were noted at Lushbush, Redenhall, 13 March and Burgh Castle Flats (two), 15 March.

Two Rough-legged Buzzards and a male Hen Harrier were present at Haddiscoe Island, 9 March, while significant counts of Buzzards included six at Ashby and four at Belton Common (four), also 9 March.

Waders at Burgh Castle Flats on 15 March included a Bar-tailed Godwit, 280 Curlew, six Avocets and 200 Black-tailed Godwits. Elsewhere, Green Sandpipers were present at Earsham GP (two), 9 March and Oulton Marshes, 14 March, Woodcock were seen at Waveney Forest, Fritton, 9 March and Fisher Row, Oulton (two), 15 March, Dunlin were noted at Earsham GP, 9 March and Thorpe-next-Haddiscoe, 15 March and a Ruff was recorded at Earsham GP, 13 March. 

Notable passerines included a Bearded Tit at Carlton Marshes, a Lesser Redpoll at Earsham GP and a flock of 80 Greenfinches at Bath Hills, Earsham, 9 March, eight Common Crossbills at Waveney Forest, 13 March and a Brambling at Carlton Colville, 15 March. A female Blackcap continued to visit a member’s garden at Worlingham up until 9 March at least, while early singing Chiffchaffs were recorded at Belton Common (two) and Geldeston (two), 9 March and Beccles the following day.
